Bam Sammy
This sandwich recipe "The Bam Sammy" comes from one of my all time favorite sites, www.favfamilyrecipes.com. Not only do these women have amazing taste but they are creative and determined enough to re-create every body's favorite restaurant dishes too! This sandwich is light but full of flavor and has become one of my families favorite sandwiches for dinner. I copied and pasted the recipe and provided the link below because I want to share their amazing website with as many friends as possible!
There are two things I have done differently one being how I chose to cook the maple bacon. I don't marinate them, weave them or cook them in the oven. I did that the first time we tried the recipe and the bacon spit and make a HUGE mess in my stove. I am sure there are ways of making sure the mess doesn't happen however cooking the bacon on the stove top and lightly coating the strips with the maple brown sugar mixture tasted just as good. Also I used packaged peso (which isn't really much of a change) and tried both sour dough bread and potato bread, either way was stupendous!

Our Version of Fork’s BAM Sammy
The BAM Sammy is one of my all time favorite sandwiches to get at a delicious restaurant in downtown Boise called Fork. I can’t tell you how many times we have eaten at Fork, everything we have gotten there has been so good, but the BAM Sammy is my go to sandwich. Just to tell you a little about how yummy this sandwich is, it has maple marinated bacon, avocados, and fresh mozzarella (hence the BAM). There is also tomatoes, fresh pesto, and I like to add the optional fried egg (It’s a little extra, but totally worth it). We decided to re-create it at home and it turned out fantastic, although I am sure I will still order it at Fork as well, it’s just too good to pass up. :) Thanks also to Pinterest for the weaved bacon idea pictured below (pre-cooked).
Ingredients
- 1 lb bacon
- 1/2 c. maple syrup (I prefer using 100% pure)
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- mozzarella cheese
- 2 ripe avocados (1/2 avocado per sandwich)
- 2 tomatoes
- fresh pesto
- 4 eggs (1 per sandwich)
- 8 slices of bread (we used sourdough)
Instructions
- At least an hour before you start preparing your meal, mix together the maple syrup and brown sugar in a small bowl. Cut the bacon slices into halves, make sure they are separated from each other, and place them all in a large plastic bag. Pour the syrup mixture over the bacon and seal. Place bag in the fridge to marinate.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. After bacon has marinated for an hour, line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and top that with a wire rack/cooling rack. Arrange 6 small slices of bacon into a weave (see picture below). Or you can just cook the pieces normally. Bake for about 20 minutes, or desired crispiness. Keep oven on.
- While the bacon is cooking, slice the tomatoes and avocados. And cook the eggs over medium.
- On another cookie sheet arrange the 8 slices of bread, 4 with sliced mozzarella cheese, 4 with a layer of pesto. Bake just until cheese begins to melt.
- Arrange by a slice of cheese bread topped with the tomato, bacon, egg, avocado, and then topped with a pesto slice.
- This recipe makes 4 sandwiches, you can adjust according to how many you actually need.
