Mongolian "Beef"
Adapted from: Get In My Belly
Ingredients:
1 pound flank steak, elk steak, deer steak, or pork; thinly sliced across the grain
1/4 CUP Cornstarch
1/2 CUP Vegetable oil
2 Green onions, thinly sliced
1 Red bell pepper sliced thinly
1/2 yellow onion cut into thick wide chunks
1/2 CUP Soy sauce
1/2 CUP Brown sugar, packed
1 tsp sesame seeds
3 Cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp Grated fresh ginger or 1/2 tsp ground ginger
1&1/2 tsp Vegetable oil
1/2 tsp sesame oil
Directions:
In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, 1&1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil, 1/2 tsp sesame and 1/2 cup water.Heat soy sauce mixture in a medium saucepan until slightly thickened, about 5-10 minutes; set aside.
In a large bowl, combine steak slices and cornstarch.
Heat 1/2 cup vegetable oil in a large high rimmed frying pan. Add beef, bell pepper and onion and fry until veggies are soft and meat is browned and cooked through.
Add soy sauce mixture to the beef and veggies over medium heat and cook until sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
Serve immediately over rice and top with green onions.
